Very often a land mass gets confused with the body politic (ENS LEGIS)that operates from it. For example the body politic titled: UNITED KINGDOM often gets confused with the land mass that it operates on: Britain.
Persons mistakenly interchange those words: Britain and United Kingdom, and use them as if they are the same entities. That is a huge mistake at law as they can be, and often are, two very separate and distinct things.
The same often happens with the body politic titled: USA that is often confused with the land mass of America.
There is also a body politic with no land mass acting as a country; this is the EUROPEAN UNION

A land mass is just that; a lump of earth and rock sticking out the the sea. A body politic is a creation of the law, a legal fiction (ENS LEGIS), and is also known as a “country” which is intangible, existing only as a creation of the law, and in your mind.
A good example of a body politic/ country that no longer exists at law, or in many of the people’s minds is: YUGOSLAVIA. That body politic no longer exists at law; but the land mass from which it did business from, is still there.
The land mass is of nature, and is therefore natural. A country is of legislation and is therefore legal. A country is created by the minds of man, it is a graven image, it is an intangible like language, mathematics, and only exists at law, it is a fiction of law; a legal fiction:

A body politic is a country which is a legal fiction; which are creations of what lawyers call the law.
Logically speaking, a people (which are real) can not “live” in a legal fiction; in a country, which is not real. Legal fictions “live” in a country, and those fictions are known at law as “persons”. This is a fundamental pillar of the law, and is detailed, and noted in places like your local council’s constitution – which is a law document that binds them.
